Te Amo, Se Cuida

Passion signals more than just intimacy, and on the streets of São Paulo, its presence is everywhere. Exchanged between people, expressed through its culture, or towards the abundant landscape surrounding it, and channelled inwardly as deep self-understanding, passion courses through the Brazilian city and defines the energy felt in its midst.

In short film, Te Amo, Se Cuida – or Self-Care – director André Vidigal and creative director Cassio Filho capture the essence of this passionate city in analog, creating a portrait of love in downtown São Paulo in defiance of the political climate. Through its authentic casting, the film follows distinct identities carved out among the city’s streets, each the embodiment of their honest selves, as they come together to rebuild the cultural, ambiental and human foundations of their city.

“Everything in life is fleeting, and the need for a portrait of this movement was evident. We produced absolutely everything in an anarchic and independent way. It seemed like a true family constellation, overflowing with affection, empathy, and learning. It was a delicious exchange of true love.”

Shot over two days, entirely in 16mm, Te Amo, Se Cuida unfolds the autonomous way in which we find collectivity in creativity, provoke change, and protect the right to freedom, contributing to a conscious future born from present uncertainty. Uniting creatives from different contexts and from across Brazil, the film’s foundations are built on a shared passion for something bigger, its creative team driven to document a moment that may too easily evaporate if not materialized on film.

Lensed with a raw, dreamlike quality, and set against an evocative original score, Te Amo, Se Cuida stands for the power of authenticity and unity in igniting change. Through its personalities, we witness how identifying something extraordinary within the darkness can facilitate a gravitational shift. Reflecting on the power of outlook, the film explores the way in which mood is defined by the methods we use to process rough ground, shaping a picture of a community communicating love through living, and unwilling to cave to obstacles.
